Westhoff Motorsports Teams With MW Motorsports to Capture Victory at MORE Freedom 250 Barstow, Ca - (July 24, 2006) Westhoff Motorsport's Joey Westhoff teamed with MW Motorsports to capture victory this past weekend at the famed MORE Freedom 250. Rick Wilcoxson and Tracy Cambell took off into the muddy Barstow desert with only one thing on their mind, getting the racecar to Troy and Joey in the lead in search of their first victory that would put them even farther ahead in the race toward another championship. With only 2 cars ahead of them at the start Rick and Tracy were on a mission to get out in front and get some clean air, and that is just what they did. As soon as the light turned green, signaling the start of the race, nobody ever looked back. Rick charged hard that first lap and passed the two cars in front of him in no time, by the end of the first lap they already had a 1 minute and 45 second lead on everyone who was trying to catch up. The second lap seemed to fly by until they realized that they had lost the radio due to the excessive amount of water coming into the racecar. With no communication the team had to hope that the rest of the race would fly by without any major complications.
Just as the sun was setting Rick and Tracy brought the car back to the main pit as Troy Johnson and Joey Westhoff were set to do the last three laps under the darkness of the Barstow desert. After a quick driver/ co-driver change and a right front flat they were set. Troy and Joey got the car in first place and they were determined to keep it that way. Their first lap went by without a trace of a problem until three miles from the start/finish they went through a huge hole that covered the HID's with red muddy water, causing them to have zero visibility. Quickly they pulled into the pits to have them cleaned and were told that they had a 19 minute lead. With no need to charge into the darkness, the team decided to take the next lap a little easier. Only ten miles into their 5th lap the alternator light came on, the first sign of any kind of problem they had all night. In hopes of saving the car they turned everything off including, radio, parker pumpers, lights, gps, etc. They were able to make it to the main pit where they had a record 8 minute alternator change, and still had a 15 minute lead. Troy and Joey cruised around the last lap at a steady pace and brought the car through the finish line capturing first overall and jumping ahead of everyone in points Westhoff Motorsports and MW Motorsports would like to thank their sponsors for making this race possible. Thanks to Mark Christopher Chevrolet, Rob Clark Construction and Design, CBfunforyou.com for making us a championship motor, Diamond Hills Auto Group, Wilcoxson Construction, Melendrez Truck Repair and The Fab School.
While the class one was busy maintaining the lead, David Norris and Michael Norris were in the Westhoff Motorsports 5/1600 ready to show the world what they were made of. Unfortunately they didn't have the chance to do that as they lost the shock line to the reservoir early on in the race. Making do with what they had in the middle of the desert, they rigged it together in hopes of making it back to the main pit. Luckily enough they were able to borrow a shock from Geer Racing and were able to complete another lap until they noticed that the ring and pinon was on it's way out. Trying to save the car as much as possible they called it quits late into the night. Many thanks goes out to Geer Racing, Carey's Building Supply, and all our other sponsors for making this race happen. Check out the latest photos from our photo gallery >>>
