Westhoff Motorsports Races for the CURE October 16, 2006 - Despite the clouds hanging overhead Westhoff Motorsports made their way out to the Barstow desert this past weekend for the first ever all woman's off road race in over 40 years. MORE promoter Jim Clements put together the first ever Powder Puff Race for the Cure in search of a raising money to help find a cure for Breast Cancer this past weekend. Over two hundred women and their teams gathered in the desert for this first annual off road race for Breast Cancer. Set to race the #557 Westhoff Motorsports class 5/1600 Janet Westhoff and Brittany Sanchez took on the 20.8 mile course Friday afternoon in search of finding the best lines for race day. The ladies would race for three hours on Saturday and would be judged on how many laps were completed and their lap times.
Saturday morning Janet and Brittany went off the line in 8th position, by the time they got to Pit 5 they were in 3rd. These two ladies were on a mission and ran hard for the next two laps. Unfortunately in the middle of their third lap problems arose. Janet and Brittany thought they had a flat, got out of the car and the rear of the cage had been ripped off, taking the oil cooler and filter with it. They were running without any oil, the Westhoff Motorsports mobile chase crew rushed to Check 5 where the ladies were stopped and pulled the car into the ACME Pits. The crew welded the cage back together and filled the racecar with oil in hopes that they would be able to get back on the course. Unfortunately the ladies were only able to make it another 3 miles and the motor seized, their race was over. Although they were not able to complete the race Janet and Brittany had a blast and told the whole crew that they would do this race again in a heartbeat. Thanks to everyone who was involved in our racing efforts, be sure to check out our full photo gallery from the race. Westhoff Motorsports will be preparing for this years 2006 SCORE Tecate Baja 1000 where we will join efforts with MW Motorsports to race down the Baja Peninsula, from Ensenada to La Paz. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest news in our racing efforts. |
