Westhoff Motorsports Captures 4th Place in MORE Season Opener January 15, 2007 – Despite the below freezing cold weather this past weekend in Lucerne Valley the race course was lined with fans, pit crews, and team members throughout the entire day on Saturday. Westhoff Motorsports had an entourage that showed up early Saturday morning in order to catch a glimse of the new car before taking off for it's first journey through the Lucerne Desert.
After 60 miles of testing on Friday with only a few bugs to work out, Joey Westhoff was determined to complete the entire 250 mile race. With the temperatures down to 8 degrees Friday night, the #1691 of Joey Westhoff took a while to get used to the cold weather. As soon as the oil started flowing and the fuel started pumping through the Major Performance motor they were flying through the desert and putting on a show for all the race fans lining the course.
Only 1.5 miles off the start line the #1691 lost all oil pressure and afraid of losing the motor only minutes into the race they pulled over and shut the motor down. After calling it into main pit Joey tried firing it back up and the oil pressure was good to go. They waited for the pit crew to arrive and put in one quart of oil just to be on the safe side, and away they went.
The rest of the race was flawless, besides a few oil pressure complications that will have to be taken care of before the next race, and a sheared lower torsion adjuster that broke with two laps to go. The entire Westhoff Motorsports team, drivers, co-drivers, and pit crew worked together to bring the #1691 to a 4th place finish in their first race of the 2007 MORE season.
